A mountain cottage of your own
Ski-in, ski-out, a warm sauna and room for ten — our private cottage at Lövhammaren is the easiest way to make Lofsdalen feel like home.
Some places you visit. Others you return to, year after year, until the mountain knows your name. For us, that place is our cottage above Lofsdalen.
High on the slopes above the village, at Lövhammaren, our cottage sits among the pines with the ski mountain Hovärken on one side and the long silver line of Lofssjön below. It is the home we open to guests — families, groups of friends and travellers who want the mountains without the crowds.
And it is truly ski-in, ski-out: put on your boots, step out of the door and ski straight to the slopes. This winter, as the lifts start turning in mid-December, it is waiting for you. Here is what a stay looks like, and why so many of our guests come back.
Warm pine, open fire
Inside, the cottage is all honey-coloured pine, soft light and deep sofas. The living room gathers around a wood stove, the bright kitchen and long dining table are made for slow breakfasts and loud dinners, and across three and a half rooms — including a loft beneath the sloping roof — there are beds for up to ten guests.
There are two bathrooms: a spacious main bathroom with double showers, a private sauna and a washing machine, plus a smaller second bathroom for busy mornings. Thoughtful storage takes care of skis, boots and wet gear.
Then there is the terrace. After a day on the mountain, take a seat outside with a glass of something good and let your eyes wander over Lofssjön and the surrounding mountains — the view that makes guests want to stay one more night.
The cottage is designed to be accessible for guests with disabilities, so everyone in your group can move around comfortably. And pets are welcome — bring the dog along for snowy walks in the forest right outside the door.
Travelling light? Bed linen and towels can be rented ahead of your stay, so the beds are ready and the towels are waiting when you arrive. Just let us know when you book.
Three reasons to stay with us
Lofsdalen has many cabins. Ours is chosen for the things that make a mountain holiday effortless.
Ski-in, ski-out
Slopes at the doorPull on your ski boots in the hallway, step outside, click into your skis and glide straight down to the slopes. At the end of the day you ski all the way back to the door. No car, no ski bus, no parking — just more time on the snow.
Sauna after the slopes
The Nordic ritualCome in from the cold, light the sauna and let the day melt away. Then a fire in the stove, a glass of something warm and a long dinner together.
Room for everyone
Families, friends & petsSpace for up to ten, accessible for guests with disabilities, and pets are always welcome. Grandparents, children and the family dog — nobody has to stay home.
A kitchen made for long dinners, and a bedroom by the window made for long sleeps.
The private sauna, and a quiet chair by the window for the hour after.
The small village with big skiing
Lofsdalen packs a 492-metre vertical drop — the highest in Sweden south of Åre — into a compact, friendly mountain. Gentle runs sit at the bottom and the steep ones at the top, so the whole family skis in the same place.
Two six-seat chairlifts carry you up without queues, and the lift passes have been named among the best value in the Swedish mountains several years running.
- i25 runs, 9 liftsGreen to black, three terrain parks, a ski-cross course and Rännan — the 42-degree steep.
- ii122 km of cross-country tracksFrom sheltered forest loops to open fells with endless views, many starting close to the cottage.
- iii150 km of snowmobile trailsHigh above the treeline — guided tours and quiet electric snowmobiles can be arranged.
- ivEvening skiingFloodlit runs from the summit of Hovärken down to the village on selected evenings.
- vAprès-ski at the slopesWhen the lifts close, the après-ski starts right at the foot of the slopes — then ski home to the cottage.
Good to know: The ski season in Lofsdalen usually runs from mid-December to mid-April. Christmas, New Year, the February sports holidays and Easter are the first weeks to sell out — we recommend booking early. Late-season highlights include the Lofsdalen Freeriders Championship on 19–20 March and the Bonfire 1125 snowmobile festival on 22–24 April 2027.
“The luxury of being truly alone with the mountains.”
Winter, off the piste
Not every winter day needs a lift pass. Glide behind a team of huskies through snow-hushed forest, join a guided off-piste day on the upper fells, or end the evening at a candlelit fondue night in the mountains.
Then there is the Lofsdalen Skybar on the summit of Hovärken, 1,125 metres up — said to be Europe’s highest whisky store. On clear, dark nights far from city light, the Northern Lights can ripple over the valley while you watch from the terrace.
The road to Lövhammaren
Lofsdalen lies in southern Härjedalen, around six hours by car from Stockholm, three from Östersund and nine from Gothenburg. The nearest airport is Sveg, 70 km away, with rental cars on site. By train, travel to Ljusdal and continue by bus or rental car.
The cottage sits above the village, beyond the reach of public transport, so a car is the easiest way to arrive. Free parking is available at the cottage, and a local taxi service runs in Lofsdalen.
